Tell that to all of the NSFW artists that have most of their fan/viewer base on Tumblr. Tell that to all of the BDSM and Sexual Health blogs that advocate for sexual health social justice via safe sex awareness and information. Tell that to the entire community of Tumblr that made friends, built their careers, fought for freedom of sexual/sexuality expression or the LGBTQA+ folks that took comfort in coming out via Tumblr. Tell that to every single user on this that have found solace for the above reasons.
well… this is about tumblr “sex workers” but thanks for sharing your thoughts that no one asked for about some random vague groups
This isn’t only about Tumblr sex workers. This is about countless artists, bloggers, teachers, writers, photographers and people that use this platform to express their ideas, works, and information about any I’ve mentioned above. To add, Tumblr did not “suddenly” decide to ban all NSFW content. While some may be speculating is it because of the child porn controversy, there are some things running in the background that many people are not noticing here.
One, if child pornography were a massive problem on this website (I am witness to stumbling on various disturbing blogs with images of death, body parts, sex and no doubt potentially child porn) this website would’ve been “taken cared of” many many years ago. Child porn gets uploaded all the time everywhere. People just do that. It’s wrong, but it happens. But the issue is also one of power, moderation, and responsibility.
Two,earlier in November, the Apple store removed the Tumblr app completely without warning “ because child porn images were found on the site “. This is not a simple or petty accusation coming from Apple. I assume that Tumblr gets a handful of its users via app, and if the app is inaccessible for many people, Tumblr loses revenue because there are fewer people accessing the platform (which means a huge loss of money). My speculation that in order to comply with Apple to put the app back on the market, it will basically ban all adult content anywhere found on the website as a big sweep under the run with the “child pornography found on the site” issue.
Three, Apple monopolizing and getting Tumblr CEO to cuck via “the adult content ban policy” involves power play and honestly just some lazy housekeeping. There have been many issues voiced by Tumblr’s community regarding the site, including handling and banning “Nazi blogs”, the now ever famous issue of moderating and removing any images depicting child pornography, allowing artists to be found via tags and the search bar easily, handling issues of bullying, hate crime and hate speech against other Tumblr users, and many more to list, but these are some of the echoing examples of what we are all reaching out to Tumblr staff for without getting any appeal.
